Visual Arts and Design Education Advisory Group

In the context of converging state and national curriculum reviews, VADEA has established a new advisory group with a membership representative of Visual Arts and Design education interests. The responsibilities of the Visual Arts & Design Education Advisory Group are to:

Provide advice to the VADEA Executive on matters relating to Visual Arts curriculum K-12 development, implementation and reform through broad and meaningful consultation with cross-sectoral stakeholder groups and subject experts

Establish and develop effective collaboration between leaders and/or members of stakeholder groups and VADEA focussed on issues related to Visual Arts and Design education K-12

Advocate for high quality Visual Arts and Design education in state and national jurisdictions through representing high-level views of their jurisdiction or organisation on matters discussed by the group, and to ensure, as far as practicable, that information relating to the work of VADEA is communicated back to the relevant members of their jurisdiction or organisation

As a member of the Professional Teachers Council of NSW, VADEA is the official representative body of Visual Arts and Design educators in NSW and meets regularly with state and national representatives to provide crucial consultation. VADEA seeks to formalise existing consultative processes in place, to develop alliances with key individuals and stakeholders to strengthen policy and practice and contributions to state and national curriculum reform, initiatives and debates. This group provides the VADEA Executive with cross-sectoral input and expertise on matters relating to Visual Arts curriculum through broad and meaningful consultation. In particular, the group will provide advice relating to the NSW Curriculum Reform and the Australian Curriculum Review, which are currently being undertaken. Members are expected to represent high-level views of their jurisdiction or organisation on matters discussed by the group, and to ensure, as far as practicable, that information relating to the work of the reference groups is communicated back to the relevant members of their jurisdiction or organisation.

The Visual Arts & Design Education Advisory Group will meet primarily online and the group will be chaired by VADEA Co-Presidents and will also include Executive and Project Officer representatives. At times, members of the group may be co-opted to lead sub-committees.

Membership is granted through an Expression of Interest nomination process by individuals, sectors and groups, based on expertise, experience and interest in their particular field.
