VADEA Collaborate Live – Jody Graham Artmaking Workshop

The Jody Graham VADEA Collaborate Live event was held on Tuesday 7th September and was so popular that we have the permission of the artist to share the recording over the upcoming holiday period so members can undertake the workshop themselves at their own pace.

Balgowlah Boys Campus was running an Artist in Residence program when lockdown 2021 hit and an excursion to Manly Dam with Jody Graham pivoted to an online artmaking workshop for students. This artmaking workshop allows you to see how you can initiate and develop online artist in residency programs while enjoying Jody’s fantastic artmaking workshop as a student – learn about her practice, have a tour of her studio and then roll up your sleeves and prepare to get messy. VADEA are pleased to provide this FREE online artist studio tour and artmaking workshop.

Jody Graham is a multidisciplinary artist who works across different art forms such as drawing, painting, sculpture, installation and more recently performance art. Her practice is characterised by her use of unconventional tools and approaches when drawing, such as rocks, bones or wire bound to the back of her hand or a bent umbrella. Sally Leaney, Head of CAPA at Balgowlah Boys and Secretary of VADEA, was first introduced to Jody’s practice around 2016, where she was immediately taken with her beautiful expressive mark-making of urban and natural landscapes, using wood burnt from forest fires, ochre, ink, and acrylic, as well as her stunning handmade brushes from discarded objects. Jody is a prolific artist – she has had several solo and group exhibitions and her Facebook page is filled with a plethora of incredible videos and images of her drawing practice. Jody and Sally are both generous and talented people and their collaboration sparked this highly creative and educational professional development opportunity that we are sure you will enjoy. Jody’s website can be accessed here where you can see her amazing work.

Please click here for the list of materials you will need for the workshop and you will want these materials to be set up for use prior to the event. Jody also requested that one page was pre-inked and dry prior to starting the event.

Not sure you have them all – within the materials list is a discounted art pack from Eckersleys that provides many of the materials suggested for the workshop but you must order these directly with them – see materials list for details. A big thanks to Eckersleys for their support of this workshop.

In addition, VADEA are hoping to run an online exhibition of participant artworks but good quality photographs of finished artworks need to be emailed to contact@vadea.org.au by Sunday 26th September in order to be included in the online exhibition.

Don’t forget to register this as Elective PD via your eTAMS.
