Photography and Digital Media in the time of COVID-19

VADEA members are invited to the next VADEA Collaborate Live, Photography and Digital Media in the time of COVID-19 presented by Craig Malyon, Head of Visual Arts, Loreto Kirribilli, to be held on Wednesday, 10 June at 7.30pm.

The necessity of remote learning has revealed interesting outcomes for students, in the use of digital media and learning through the digital screen.

Teaching photography, filmmaking and graphics in the online classroom has presented thought provoking challenges, Craig will share programming ideas and what surprised him during sessions of remote learning and what can be considered for the future.

Craig Malyon has been teaching visual arts for over 20 years and is currently Head of Visual Arts at Loreto Kirribilli, he has been involved in a number of areas of art education ranging from curriculum to leadership. Both author and spasmodic practitioner Craig engages in all aspects of Visual Arts. A key area of interest is innovation and technology within visual arts education, that has encouraged exploration in digital media, reviewing the significance of practice within analogue and recognising there is a certain ‘voodoo’ that encapsulates photography and filmmaking.

Craig has presented at VADEA conferences, including Art in the age of Hypermodernism-What would Walter Benjamin think of Drones, VR Googles and 3D scanners(not to mention Pixel Sticks), [re]turn to Matter, NAS in 2017 and Photography is Dead: Hauntology and Photomedia in the Classroom, Future Present, MCA 2019.
