Description

You are invited to a VADEA Collaborate Live presentation with artist and curator Dr Kath Fries, an exciting opportunity for VADEA members to gain an insight into her artmaking and curatorial practice.

Kath is interested in the shifting ways our senses are entangled with our material and immaterial surroundings, specifically how site-responsive practices engage with layered histories to open-up new perspectives, relationships, and interconnections.

Kath has been involved in artist-run galleries, community spaces, artist-in residence programs, local government initiatives and education institutions, working as an artist, curator, researcher, board member, lecturer, writer, and mentor to emerging artists.

Kaths’ art practice encompasses installation, sculpture, drawing and research. Recent exhibitions include Biomateriality at Delmar Gallery (14 May-12 June 2022) involving researchers, designers and artists who are pioneering in biomaterials in Australia and Cementa 22 in Kandos (19-22 May 2022).

Kath co-curated and exhibited in Presence of Mind at Gallery Lane Cove (11 Dec 2021- 26 Feb 2022) featuring works by Buddhist contemporary artists from Australia and Singapore and has been a curator of HIDDEN Rookwood Sculptures since 2019. Recently VADEA had the pleasure of collaborating with Kath to hold VADEA Connect HIDDEN Rookwood Sculpture; a very special teacher’s evening celebrating artist and visual arts student sculpture submissions in HIDDEN Rookwood Sculptures (10 Sept-9 Oct 2022).

VADEA Director of Professional Learning Wendy Ramsay will be interviewing Kath about her rich and diverse artmaking practice.
